As a content creator and a consumer of content, I aim to create videos that I would watch the entirety of. I know very few people will sit down to watch a 20 minute video, however they will watch a 2 hour movie no problem.
What should I know to create great videos
The key to creating videos is not being an expert right away. Learning takes time. I’ve spend many years learning how to create compelling videos beginning with Windows Movie Maker and now using Wondershare Filmora
- Utilize YouTube videos to learn new software and filming tips
- You don’t need a professional camera to start. Many people start (and still do) use their Android or iPhone to film and create videos
- Get a decent laptop and select a video editing software
While an iPhone/Android phone isn’t as great as a DSLR, with a free camera app for both devices you can create videos just with your phone. Once you’ve finished filming simply export the video files out of the app to your device and download to your computer using a USB cord to complete the editing process.

Once you’ve added your clips to your video editing program it’s a matter of selecting the the clips you want to use and creating from there. From this point on the possibilities are endless to create exciting videos
After arranging clips I also recommend adding music (make sure you can use it, search for royalty-free music) and text to ensure viewers stay engaged with your content. This way YouTube can see that viewers like your video and will show more from your channel.
In regards of Royalty Free Music, it isn’t free music. Some artists require you to use an attribution clause in your video, other require payment. Be sure to check their website before using their music for ‘Terms Of Use’. If you do subscribe to a Royalty Free music service (Envato, MorningLight to name a few) they will provide you with a license. This may be used to remove the Content ID found on many videos.
