Our Travel Gear

Over the past 10+ years of traveling, I have developed a fine-tuned system for what to bring for any trip I’m going to break it down by category (checked, carry-on, additional items, etc.)

Checked Luggage

Your checked luggage is one of the most important aspects of your trip, I currently have a full-size hard shell suitcase. It does serve its purpose as I don’t need outside pockets as it has integrated inside pockets. I’ve rarely used outside pockets anyway as my passport/ID is in my carry-on. My checked luggage has all my clothes (I keep one set in my carry-on), hygienic needs (oral and facial care products), additional shoes, jackets, and other required items.

What's in my Carry On

Unlike my checked luggage, my carry-on backpack is a camera backpack which I’ve turned into a carry-on. It comes with me when I travel on any flight, bus, or road trip. So here’s what’s in my carry-on;

  • Camera, lenses, batteries, and all related camera equipment. As a photographer, I also enjoy capturing and sharing images of my travels with my friends back home.
  • Laptop and charger. I use my computer to plan and book activities and load my Compass Card (Vancouver’s transit pass); my home pass isn’t compatible with Vancouver, so I have a separate pass for Vancouver. I also edit and share images using my computer.
  • Wallet/ID. I have a wallet phone case, but also have my full wallet, which has my credit cards, additional ID, and loyalty cards in case my phone’s battery dies.
  • Phone charger/battery pack to keep charged throughout the day
  • Notebook, to keep notes of significant events and activities, video ideas, and keep a log of things I did during the day
